COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the Psychology course, students are introduced to foundational areas of psychological theory and practice. Modules such as Introduction to Psychology and Psychology of Individual Differences and Personality provide a grounding in the historical development of psychology and the complexity of human personality, including experiential learning through personality assessment tools. Introduction to Psychopathology introduces psychological disorders using the DSM-5, equipping students with knowledge on diagnosis and symptoms. Contemporary Issues and Applied Psychology explores how psychological insights help interpret social and global challenges, while Introduction to Research Methods and Statistics focuses on practical research and data analysis skills. Optional modules such as Positive Psychology and Counselling and Parapsychology allow students to explore specialist interests and unconventional psychological topics. In the second year, the emphasis shifts toward research and applied psychology. Core modules like Qualitative and Quantitative Research Methods deepen understanding of psychological research through hands-on practice with software and methodologies, while Neuropsychology explores biological and cognitive processes. Optional modules cover a wide spectrum including Health Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Educational Psychology, Work and Organisational Psychology, and Real World Work Experiences, allowing students to shape their academic path. Other options such as Stress and Health, Cultural Psychology, and Infancy explore psychological development across cultures and life stages. Students also have the opportunity to study abroad for a semester. In the final year, students complete core modules in Applied Social Psychology, Lifespan Psychology, and an Integrative Psychology Project, where they independently research a topic of personal interest. Optional modules allow for further specialization with topics such as Ageing and the Brain, Communication and Language, Counselling Psychology, and Gender and Sexualities. Additional choices like Psychology in Policing and Criminal Justice and Intellectual Disabilities highlight the course’s real-world relevance, preparing students for careers across clinical, educational, forensic, and research domains.
