COURSE CURRICULUM
In the first year of the program, students undertake a set of core modules, each worth 20 credits, to build foundational knowledge in economics, finance, accounting, and data intelligence. The Principles of Economics module provides a strong theoretical understanding of basic economic concepts such as demand and supply, market operations, firm competition, and macroeconomic factors like national income, inflation, and unemployment. Professional Development in Accounting emphasizes the development of essential attitudes and behaviors for career success, complementing academic qualifications. Quantitative Methods for Finance introduces analytical approaches needed for data manipulation and decision-making in finance, business, and accounting. The Introduction to Finance module lays the groundwork for more advanced finance studies, covering key concepts in financial management. Introduction to Financial Accounting focuses on the preparation of financial statements, teaching the principles of double-entry accounting and the reporting of business transactions. Finally, the Data Intelligence module provides an introduction to data management tools and techniques, enabling students to manage, mine, and visualize complex data sets for better decision-making in both national and international business contexts.In the second year of the program, students continue building their expertise with core modules and optional modules that deepen their understanding of finance, business operations, and risk management. Core modules include Corporate Finance, where students learn to make investment and financing decisions for businesses, Financial Reporting, which focuses on the preparation and analysis of financial statements, and Business Operations, which examines how operations management aligns activities with corporate objectives. The Risk Management module develops skills in identifying and managing organizational risks, including credit risk. Students are also required to complete at least 40 credits from a list of optional modules. These options include Entrepreneurial Finance, which covers financing sources and strategies for entrepreneurial firms, Financial Analysis for Investments, which focuses on analyzing financial statements for security valuation, and Principles of Islamic Finance, which explores financing activities compliant with Islamic law. Other options include Entrepreneurship in the Digital Age, which focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation, Principles of Taxation, which introduces UK taxation systems, and Financial Modelling, which teaches practical financial theory applications. Intermediate Macroeconomics builds an understanding of macroeconomic theories and their practical applications. Additionally, students have the option to study abroad, gaining international experience and broadening their academic and professional networks by studying 60 credits at a partner institution.In the third year of the program, students are required to complete several core modules, totaling 80 credits, to deepen their understanding of finance and related fields. The core modules include Banking, Financial Markets and Institutions, which introduces the financial system and economic principles for understanding interest rates, monetary policy, and bank risk management; Financial Technology, which explores the integration of technologies like AI, blockchain, and data science in finance; Corporate Financial Strategy, focusing on corporate finance principles, capital structure, dividend policies, and modern finance theories; and Current Issues and Trends in Finance, which encourages students to analyze current financial debates within a historical context. Additionally, students must complete at least 40 credits from optional modules, including International Finance, which covers the complexities of international financial management and exchange rate risks; Equity and Fixed Income Securities, which teaches students to manage investments in stocks and bonds; Investment and Portfolio Management, focusing on creating and managing investment portfolios using modern portfolio theory; Islamic Banking and Capital Markets, which covers Sharia-compliant financial products and services; Business Research Methodology and Practice, which provides the foundation for business research; and the Business Research Project, which guides students through a substantial research project relevant to their degree program. Students also have the option of taking a professional placement during this year.
