COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, you'll study a range of foundational modules to build your knowledge in accounting, economics, and business ethics. The *Governance, Ethics, and Law* module covers ethical principles and conflicts in business activities, while *Professional Development in Accounting* focuses on the broader skills employers seek in addition to qualifications. You'll gain introductory knowledge in *Introduction to Economics and Finance*, covering economic theory, financial objectives, investment appraisal, and financial calculations. The *Introduction to Financial Accounting* module will teach you how to prepare financial statements for sole traders and limited companies, along with the principles of double-entry accounting. *Introduction to Management Accounting* will introduce you to key accounting techniques for supporting management decision-making. Finally, *Data Intelligence* explores how accounting techniques can be applied in planning, controlling, and decision-making processes in both the industrial and service sectors.In the second year, you will deepen your understanding of international accounting and finance, building on the foundational knowledge from your first year. The *International Accounting and Finance Issues* module will help you explore global accounting practices. You'll also have the opportunity to choose from various optional modules, including *Financial Reporting*, which focuses on preparing financial statements and analyzing them using IASB standards and ratio analysis, and *Management Accounting*, which covers budgetary control and short-term decision-making techniques. Alternatively, you can take *Integrated Business Accounting*, which combines financial and management accounting to serve both external and internal stakeholders. In semester two, you'll choose from additional modules such as *Corporate Finance*, which delves into investment and financing decisions in a global context, *Entrepreneurial Finance*, which explores financial management for small and medium-sized firms, and *Principles of Taxation*, which introduces UK tax systems for individuals and companies. Other modules include *Business Technology and the Finance Function*, *Business Operations*, and *Personal Wealth Planning and Management*. For those interested in international experience, the *Study Abroad* module allows students to study abroad for a semester, potentially substituting BCU semester two modules with equivalent credits from a host university. In the final year, you'll have the opportunity to specialize and enhance your expertise in accounting and finance through a range of advanced modules. *Empowering Future Leaders* will focus on developing your leadership and consultancy capabilities, with an emphasis on strategic decision-making. *Accounting for the Planet* introduces corporate social responsibility and sustainability reporting, encouraging you to evaluate non-financial disclosures and the role businesses play in promoting a cleaner planet. You will also select from a variety of optional modules such as *Tax Planning*, which builds on previous tax studies and explores more complex tax concepts, and *Banking, Financial Markets and Institutions*, which examines the financial system, markets, and economic principles. Other options include *Audit and Assurance*, *Advanced Financial Reporting*, and *Project Management*, where you’ll apply industry-standard tools. *Strategic Management Accounting* will deepen your understanding of management accounting techniques in strategic decision-making. For those interested in Islamic finance, the *Islamic Banking and Capital Markets* module offers insights into Sharia-compliant financial systems. Modules like *Principles of Not-For-Profit Accounting and Governance*, *Fintech*, and *Corporate Financial Strategy* provide further specialized knowledge in niche areas. Finally, you will complete a *Business Research Project* (40 credits), where you'll undertake a substantial research project in your area of interest, culminating your academic journey.
