COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Textile Design for Fashion & Interiors course offers a comprehensive and progressive structure that takes students through a journey of creative development, technical exploration, and professional preparation. In the first year, students are introduced to core textile techniques including print, knit, embroidery, and weave through hands-on workshops and digital tools. These modules encourage experimentation with materials and processes while building essential skills in composition, colour, and construction. Students also begin to understand the wider context of textile design through modules focused on sustainability and cultural connections, learning how to minimise environmental impact and explore the social relevance of their work. In the second year, students start to tailor their learning toward their interests and career goals. They explore different sectors within the fashion and interiors industries and engage with industry-focused briefs that simulate real-world scenarios. Technical skills are further refined as students build distinctiveness and originality in their practice. Through optional modules such as work placement, live industry projects, or creative entrepreneurship, students can gain practical experience and begin to shape their future professional path. In the final year, students apply their research and creative skills to a self-directed major project that aligns with their ambitions. They are encouraged to specialise and develop a strong, personal design identity through the creation of a focused textile collection. This work is refined and developed into impactful portfolio pieces that reflect their creative direction. Alongside this, students build an online presence and prepare for their transition into the industry with a clear career plan. Throughout the course, there is a strong emphasis on sustainability, digital fluency, and professional readiness, ensuring that graduates are confident, adaptable, and equipped to contribute meaningfully to the fashion and textiles industry.
