COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) in Sport Business Management is a comprehensive degree that equips students with the knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in the dynamic world of sport, events, and business. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in key business areas through modules like Introduction to Sport Business Management, Principles of Marketing, Finance for Managers, and Managing Events. These are complemented by modules such as Developing Your Personal Brand and Managing Teams, which focus on employability, communication, and leadership. The second year builds on this foundation with a greater emphasis on industry-relevant topics including Big Data, Analytics and Innovation, Managing Venues, and Culture and Consumer Behaviour in Sport Business. Students are encouraged to understand how digital transformation and consumer psychology impact modern sport organisations. Personal Development as a Manager also supports students in preparing for work placements and future careers. Methods in Research and Project sets the stage for final-year research, while Marketing Communications Planning introduces campaign strategies crucial in sport promotion. An optional semester abroad offers international experience and broader professional networks. In the final year, students apply their knowledge strategically through modules such as Marketing Strategy and Leadership, Strategic Management, and Global Sports Law, Policy and CSR, exploring how global issues, ethics, and compliance shape sport governance. The Extended Business Research Project allows students to focus on a specific area of interest in depth, applying theory to real-world challenges. Optional modules like Contemporary Issues in Global Sport or Legal Contracts and Bidding in Events offer additional specialisation. Throughout the course, there is a consistent emphasis on real-world application, career readiness, and exposure to industry professionals, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in sport marketing, venue management, event coordination, or strategic roles within the global sport and esports sectors.
