COURSE CURRICULUM

This photography course is designed to guide students from foundational skills to advanced creative practice, preparing them for professional careers in photography. In the first year, students focus on developing essential technical skills, creativity, and an understanding of the social and ethical aspects of photography. Modules like Introduction to Photography and Principles and Practice of Photography lay the groundwork by introducing students to key photographic techniques, digital practices, and various genres. The Enterprise of Photography module allows students to engage with the outside world, building collaborative and enterprise skills. Discourse provides a contextual framework, exploring significant design movements and photographers. Additionally, students choose one of several optional modules to further explore narrative processes through different mediums, such as space, time, sound, and identity. In the second year, students begin to specialize and refine their personal style. Context of Photography helps them focus on a specific area of interest, while Identifying Direction encourages self-directed projects that define their future career aspirations. The Live Project module offers students the opportunity to work on real-world briefs, building professional experience and collaboration skills. Optional modules like Work Placement and Collaborative Practice provide further opportunities to develop industry-relevant skills. In the final year, students take a more autonomous approach to their work, with Advancing Practice helping them further refine their projects. Independent Enquiry requires a research-based written assignment that supports their creative direction. The Major Project module allows students to produce a significant body of work, showcasing their skills and knowledge at the Graduate Show. This comprehensive course combines technical expertise, creativity, and industry engagement to ensure students are well-prepared for a career in photography.
