COURSE CURRICULUM

The Landscape Architecture course is structured over three years, progressively building students' theoretical understanding, technical skills, and professional readiness. In Year 1, students are introduced to the foundations of the discipline through six core modules. These explore sources of design inspiration, key graphical techniques, and material systems, while examining the global and local impacts of human interaction with landscapes. Modules such as Inspiration, Skills, Influence, Components, and Formation help students understand landscape architecture's scope and scale, encouraging both creative thinking and practical awareness. Students begin to engage with design processes, develop representation techniques, and explore how sensory and cultural factors shapeenvironments.Inn Year 2, the focus shifts to connecting theory with real-world application. Core modules include Construction and Planting Design, Context, Work Placement (Praxis), Urban Design, and Designed Ecologies. These develop students' understanding of site-specific design, ecological systems, and the sociocultural dimensions of landscape practice. Students also undertake a placement or conduct a professional case study, gaining experience in industry settings and refining their career direction. Optional modules such as Collaborative Practice and Live Project allow students to work on interdisciplinary or external briefs, developing teamwork, communication, and project management skills in preparation for professional environments.The final year emphasizes independent exploration, enabling students to define their academic and creative direction through a comprehensive major project. This project unfolds across three modules: Major Project: Define, Major Project: Deliver, and Major Project: Landscape Architecture. Students select a site, develop a conceptual framework, and produce detailed masterplans supported by planting and construction design. The Professionalism module complements this work by preparing students for industry expectations, enhancing their confidence, and helping them position themselves for employment. By the end of the course, students are equipped to communicate complex ideas, apply technical knowledge, and contribute meaningfully to contemporary landscape architecture practice.
