COURSE CURRICULUM

The Jewellery Design degree is a three-year program that combines practical skills, conceptual development, and professional preparation. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational techniques, material exploration, and methods of working, alongside contextual study modules that encourage awareness of the wider discipline. Core modules include Jewellery and Objects in Context, Specialist Techniques, and Contextual Exploration, while optional modules such as Surface and Ornament, Fine Jewellery Techniques, and Introduction to Gemmology allow for early specialization. The second year builds on this foundation, promoting experimentation, risk-taking, and deeper engagement with the breadth of the discipline. Core modules include Contextual Specialism and Jewellery and Objects in Depth, complemented by optional modules like Narrative of Objects, Material Exploration, Luxury Jewellery Branding, Live Project, or Work Placement. Students also have the option to study abroad, enhancing both their cultural and professional understanding. The final year focuses on consolidation and professional readiness, with core modules including Major Project: Jewellery and Objects, Studio Perspectives, Studio Development, and Professional Practice. This stage allows students to refine a personal creative direction, engage in self-directed projects, and develop the skills required to navigate the jewellery industry successfully. Across all three years, the program emphasizes experimentation, critical thinking, and professional engagement, equipping graduates with the technical, conceptual, and entrepreneurial skills necessary to thrive as innovative jewellery designers.
