In Year 1 of the Interior Architecture and Design course, you’ll explore the foundations of spatial design. Through modules like Re-ordering Space and Manipulating Space, you’ll begin developing your understanding of how interiors function in relation to human behaviour, spatial planning, and aesthetics. Transforming Space 1 introduces you to single-function space design, giving you practical experience in developing an interior project. Twentieth Century Design Cultures provides historical and contextual knowledge, examining key ideologies that have shaped modern design. The Design Devices module strengthens your ability to communicate ideas through industry-standard visualisation techniques, preparing you for professional presentation and portfolio development.In Year 2, the curriculum expands your design thinking and skills through more complex challenges. Interior Strategies encourages interdisciplinary thinking by exploring how interior design draws from other creative disciplines. Transforming Space 2 progresses your design development into mixed-use spaces, focusing on critical thinking and concept application. Design Communication advances your digital skills, particularly using SolidWorks, to support the design and production process. You can also choose an optional module worth 20 credits, including Praxis (a short-term placement), Collaborative Practice, or a Live Project. These modules offer practical, real-world experience and help build connections in the creative industry.Your final year centres on producing professional-level work and preparing for employment. Critical Study refines your research and analytical abilities by encouraging deep exploration into contextual factors that shape your design approach. Design Integration challenges you to test feasibility and synthesis across multiple design projects. The Major Project is the culmination of your learning, allowing you to undertake a significant research-led or practice-based project tailored to your interests. This year also includes opportunities to exhibit your work to industry professionals, showcasing your readiness for a career in interior architecture and design.
