In Year 1, the focus is on building foundational knowledge and skills in game development. Students will learn essential programming languages and tools through the Game Programming module, developing basic game functionalities through practical assignments. The Modelling module teaches students to create and manipulate 3D game assets using industry-standard software, while the Game Asset Pipeline module covers the technical aspects of managing game assets, including workflow efficiency and collaboration. Game Mechanics focuses on designing and programming game systems, and Animation helps students learn the principles of bringing game characters and objects to life. The Game Design module introduces students to the theories and principles of game design, including level design, narrative development, and user interface design. These modules provide a broad understanding of the essential elements of gamedevelopment.Inn Year 2, the emphasis shifts towards more advanced and specialized skills. Interface and UX Scripting focuses on creating intuitive and player-centric interfaces, while Rapid Design Prototyping teaches students how to quickly turn game concepts into playable prototypes. Game Studio Production gives students a real-world experience of working in a professional game studio, simulating the collaborative and iterative processes of game development. Worldbuilding explores narrative techniques and environment design, helping students create immersive game universes. Immersive Technologies introduces students to cutting-edge VR and AR technologies, while Collaborative Practice encourages teamwork across various specializations in game development, promoting skills in communication and adaptability.In the final year, students deepen their technical expertise and focus on specialized areas of game development. Game Artificial Intelligence teaches students to implement AI techniques in games, enhancing character and environment behavior. Virtual Production introduces students to the integration of animation, CGI, and live-action footage in game development, including real-time lighting and rendering. Storytelling and Narrative focuses on narrative development, helping students craft engaging stories and character arcs. Console Game Development teaches the unique challenges of developing games for console platforms, including hardware requirements and performance optimization. The Individual Honours Project is a capstone module, allowing students to showcase their creativity and technical ability by developing a substantial independent project. This year prepares students for the professional game development industry, providing opportunities to demonstrate their expertise and creativity.
