COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students must complete five core modules totaling 100 credits. These include Telling Stories with Journalism (20 credits), which introduces storytelling in journalism, Journalism Techniques (20 credits), which covers core production skills, Prose Writing (20 credits) to enhance writing abilities, Key Critical Concepts (20 credits) for literary analysis, and Digital Reporting (20 credits), focusing on digital platforms and multimedia storytelling. Students also complete at least 20 credits from optional modules like Literature and Conflict, Language in Action, and Craft of Writing, allowing them to explore specific areas of interest.In Year 2, students must complete 60 credits from core modules, including Writing and the Environment (20 credits), Media Law in Practice (20 credits), and Practical Reporting (20 credits), which covers hands-on newsroom experience. Additional core faculty modules include Work Placement (20 credits) and Collaborative Practice (20 credits), offering professional experience and teamwork skills. Students also complete at least 40 credits from optional modules such as The Romantics, Grammar and Style, Writing Short Stories, and others in literature, linguistics, and creative writing.In the Final Year, students must complete the core module Advanced Reporting (20 credits), focusing on advanced journalism techniques. Students select one of the core-option modules: Major Project Preparation (English) or Major Project Preparation (Media) (20 credits). For the major project, students choose between Major Project: Dissertation or Major Project: Production (40 credits). Students must also complete at least 40 credits from optional modules like Modernism and its Legacies, Applied Sociolinguistics, Writing Poetry, The Gothic, Media Activism, and others, which provide specialized knowledge in various fields. These modules prepare students for professional careers in media, publishing, or other creative industries.
