COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Art and Design course is structured over three years, offering a combination of experimental, research-led, and practical approaches to interdisciplinary creative practice. In the first year, students engage with six core labs—Thought, Materials, Digital, Performance, Nature, and Speculative Labs—developing foundational skills, conceptual thinking, and a broad understanding of art, design, and technology. These modules encourage experimentation, exploration, and the development of a personal creative approach. In the second year, students apply their skills through Live Projects at local, national, and global levels, providing real-world experience and opportunities to work collaboratively on professional briefs. Optional modules, such as Collaborative Practice or Work Placement, and the opportunity to study abroad, allow students to broaden their experience and adapt to diverse creative environments. In the final year, students focus on independent research and creation through the Major Project in the Research Lab and the Futures Lab, where they explore emerging trends and technologies. The Creation Lab: Creative Technologies module enables students to develop a substantial, interdisciplinary final project that synthesizes their learning. Across the course, students cultivate creativity, technical expertise, and professional adaptability, equipping them to enter innovative, interdisciplinary creative industries or pursue further study, while developing a distinctive and forward-thinking creative practice.
