COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year, students complete several core modules totaling 120 credits. *History of Architecture and Design* explores key architectural ideologies of the 20th century and earlier epochs, helping students understand the relationship between past and present architecture. *Structures, Environment, & Technical Studies* introduces students to materials, structures, and environmental design strategies, developing an understanding of building construction, materials, and sustainability. *Design Apparatus* focuses on architectural communication and representation, teaching drawing, sketching, CAD, and digital presentation techniques. *Design Resolution 1* is a significant module that links theory with practical design, exploring the relationship between architecture and landscape architecture. It encourages students to develop design interventions at varying scales, drawing upon skills learned in *Design Apparatus* and *Structures, Environment, & Technical Studies*. This module also serves as a preparatory "dry run" for more advanced design work in later years. In the second year, students complete core modules totaling 120 credits. *Architectural Theory and Research Methods* introduces students to theoretical concepts in architecture, helping them understand how theory informs and shapes architectural practice. *Design Methods* explores different research methods and design strategies, encouraging students to test and develop independent design processes using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. *Praxis* connects theory with practice, emphasizing the application of skills and knowledge in real-world contexts, and prepares students for diverse career paths in the built environment. *Co.LAB* offers an interdisciplinary platform for students to engage in collaborative projects, connecting them with the creative arts and built environment professionals. *Design Resolution 2* builds on the knowledge from previous modules, requiring students to develop a well-rounded design proposal that integrates spatial planning, site response, urban context, and technical aspects in a professional and cohesive manner. In the final year, students complete core modules totaling 120 credits. *Critical Study in Architecture* involves an in-depth, research-driven critical study of a case study, addressing social, cultural, and political influences on contemporary architectural discourse, leading to a final extended piece of critical writing. *Design Exploration* focuses on the overarching theme of identity, guiding students through a year-long design process that begins with creative exploration and the development of early design ideas based on a given brief. *Systems in Architecture* emphasizes the technical aspects of design, requiring students to apply knowledge from previous modules to understand the integration of architectural systems, using case studies to explore fabrication and assembly. *Design Resolution 3* builds on earlier modules, requiring students to develop a comprehensive design proposal that addresses conflicting demands across various scales and resolves theoretical, spatial, and aesthetic concepts at both strategic and detailed levels.
