COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Acting course at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire is structured across three years, providing comprehensive training in acting, voice, movement, and singing. In the first year, students focus on core principles of performance through modules in Acting Theory and Practice, Voice and Movement Practices, and Rehearsal Exercise. This stage emphasizes understanding character creation, narrative and improvisational skills, text analysis, and developing a personal approach to rehearsal and professionalism. In the second year, students advance their skills with continued study in Acting Theory and Practice and Voice and Movement Practices, exploring texts, rehearsal techniques, and media-specific performance methods for stage, screen, and microphone. Performance Exercises provide opportunities to integrate acting, voice, movement, and singing in live performances, refining characterisation and audience engagement. The third year consolidates all skills in modules focused on Production, Recorded Media, and Professional Development. Students rehearse and perform multiple productions, gaining experience in various venues and rehearsal styles. They also work in film, TV, and audio media, developing technical and performance skills for screen and radio. The course concludes with professional preparation, including auditions, portfolio development, and freelance business skills, equipping students with the practical, creative, and professional expertise needed to launch a successful acting career.
