COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Sound (Production) course is a practice-led program that develops advanced skills in music and audio production across contemporary media. Structured over three trimesters, it combines technical training, creative experimentation, and research-based reflection. In the first trimester, students focus on developing core skills and exploring the contexts of their work through Sound Skills, Research and Practice, and the Creative Portfolio modules. Sound Skills expands technical capabilities across sound design, production, and composition, while Research and Practice encourages critical reflection, situating personal work within broader artistic and cultural contexts. The Creative Portfolio module allows students to produce a range of production studies, exploring contemporary practice, aesthetic considerations, and the narrative possibilities of sound as a medium. In the second trimester, students develop an advanced creative project through the Production Project module, reflecting on their process and outcomes to enhance personal and professional development, while continuing with Sound Skills and completing the Research and Practice project. The final trimester culminates in the Major Project, a large-scale, independent practical project supported by a reflective journal, enabling students to explore an original research area through production practice. Core modules include Sound Skills, Practice and Research, Creative Portfolio, Production Project, and Major Project, providing a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates technical expertise, creative innovation, and professional readiness for careers in music production, post-production, and related creative industries.
