COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Inclusive Education at Bath Spa University can be studied full-time over one year or part-time over two years, providing flexibility to suit professional and personal commitments. The course is structured across three trimesters, with part-time students spreading 180 credits over two academic years. In the first trimester, students explore how inclusion is implemented in educational settings, examining barriers to learning and the role of education in contemporary societies. They consider how educational reform is designed and enacted to promote social and economic change, gaining insight into the systemic factors influencing inclusion. The second trimester focuses on developing research skills and understanding relevant to inclusive education, introducing principles of social research and a range of qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Students learn to design and propose research projects, preparing them to undertake professionally relevant investigations that underpin their final dissertation. In the third trimester, students complete a substantial research project on an aspect of inclusive education pertinent to their context, reporting their findings in a format suitable for postgraduate study. The program equips students with advanced knowledge of inclusive education, research competence, and practical skills to support learners with diverse needs. Graduates leave prepared to contribute effectively to inclusive practices, policy development, and research in educational settings both nationally and internationally.
