COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM Legal Foundations course is structured across three trimesters, offering a comprehensive study of the core areas of legal knowledge and practice. In the first trimester, students develop essential legal research and analytical skills through modules such as Legal Systems Research and Skills, Constitutional and EU Law, Obligations and Dispute Resolution, and Public Law. These modules establish a strong foundation in understanding how legal systems function and how laws are applied and interpreted. The second trimester builds on this knowledge with a focus on practical and professional areas of law, including Property Law and Practice, Criminal Law and Practice, Business Law and Practice, and Trusts, Wills and Estates. This stage emphasises applied legal learning and prepares students for real-world legal problem-solving. In the final trimester, students can choose between two pathways: the Legal Clinic module, which offers hands-on experience working with real clients in professional settings, or the Legal Research Project, which allows for in-depth study of a chosen legal topic under academic supervision. Students who complete only the core modules may exit with a Postgraduate Diploma. The course continually evolves to reflect current legal practice, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for professional qualification and careers in the legal field.
