COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation degree offers a comprehensive study of ecosystems, species, and the practical skills needed to understand and protect wildlife. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in biological techniques, ecology, evolution, environmental change, and scientific communication, alongside analytical skills for studying nature. The second year expands this foundation with advanced topics such as conservation ecology, behavioural ecology, environmental management, geospatial skills, and the societal aspects of biology, while also encouraging creative engagement with nature through modules like creative explorations of the wild and science journalism. Students gain professional experience and practical skills through a placement year, applying their learning in real-world conservation and research settings. In the final year, the focus is on independent research and advanced application, including dissertation planning and publication, wildlife conservation field courses, and specialised studies in marine biology, animal behaviour, extreme environments, conservation politics, and wildlife photography. Throughout the program, students develop hands-on skills in surveying, monitoring, and applying ecological methods, while also learning to communicate scientific knowledge effectively and understand human impacts on ecosystems. The degree equips graduates with the expertise, practical experience, and creative approaches necessary for careers in wildlife conservation, environmental management, research, and related fields, preparing them to address contemporary ecological challenges on both local and global scales.
