COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport and Exercise Nutrition degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the scientific, physiological, and psychological principles underlying nutrition for health, exercise, and sport. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in biological techniques, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, food and nutrition, and the relationship between nutrition and exercise, alongside an introduction to sports management. The second year develops advanced understanding through modules in human nutrition, pathophysiology, sport and health psychology, and applied aspects such as food product development and the social context of sport. Students also gain research skills, explore contemporary issues, and have the opportunity for professional placement experience to apply theory in real-world settings. In the final year, students focus on applied sport and exercise nutrition, planning and executing a dissertation, and integrating knowledge of anatomy, physiology, metabolism, clinical biochemistry, and public health. Additional modules in food and nutrition practice, epidemiology, medical biology, and contemporary sport issues provide broader context and practical application. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, research, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in sports nutrition, health and fitness, wellness, performance coaching, or further postgraduate study. The program combines scientific rigour with applied experience to equip graduates with the knowledge and skills required to optimize performance and support health in diverse populations.
