COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Human Nutrition degree provides a thorough understanding of the scientific principles underpinning human nutrition, emphasizing both theoretical knowledge and practical application. In the first year, students build foundational skills through modules in biological techniques, biochemistry, anatomy and physiology, food and nutrition, nutrition and exercise for health, and the microbial world. This establishes a solid base for understanding how nutrition affects health across the lifespan. In the second year, students deepen their knowledge with modules such as human nutrition, human pathophysiology and nutrition, food analysis, food product development, and microbial applications, alongside research skills, environmental management, and health in society, complemented by opportunities for professional placements. This year integrates applied learning with real-world contexts, preparing students for professional practice and research. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics, including applied sports and exercise nutrition, epidemiology and public health, anatomy, physiology and metabolism for physical activity, food safety, global trends in food, and food and nutrition in practice. Students also complete a dissertation, further developing research, analytical, and problem-solving skills. The program emphasizes ethical, environmental, and societal considerations, equipping graduates with the expertise and practical experience required to pursue careers in public health, healthcare, research, the food industry, education, or further postgraduate study in nutrition.
