COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography program provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary understanding of both human and physical geography, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to address contemporary environmental and societal challenges. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules covering environmental change, urban and rural environments, sustainable futures, and effective scientific communication, alongside enterprise-focused design thinking. In the second year, the course expands into applied and analytical aspects of geography, including fieldwork in hazards, disasters, and sustainable development, climate change, energy and society, environmental management, global development, social justice, and geospatial skills, while optional modules allow exploration of migration, identity, and public policy. Practical experience is embedded through work placements that build transferable skills. The final year emphasises advanced study and research, with students completing a dissertation and engaging in field courses addressing climate change, water resources, and extreme environments. Core modules explore coastal and river management, conservation politics, environmental practice, and socio-political analysis of disasters, while optional modules enable examination of issues such as community engagement, gender, identity, and inequality. Graduates leave with critical thinking, research, and analytical skills, a strong understanding of environmental and societal systems, and practical experience, preparing them for careers in environmental consultancy, policy, conservation, planning, or postgraduate study.
