COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Criminal and Investigative Psychology degree offers an in-depth exploration of human behaviour, thought, and emotion, with a particular focus on criminality and forensic contexts. In the first year, students develop a foundation in psychology, covering research methods, individual differences, critical thinking, and the basics of criminal and forensic psychology, alongside modules examining crime and disorder in everyday life. The second year expands this knowledge with advanced study in cognitive, developmental, biological, and social psychology, as well as specialised modules on criminal investigations, criminal justice theory and policy, clinical psychology, and social justice. Students also gain practical experience through work placements and professional development opportunities. The final year emphasizes independent research and advanced application of psychological science, including a dissertation, forensic mental health, contemporary forensic topics, and specialised areas such as environmental psychology, human memory, cyberpsychology, psychology of ageing, sexual health, and gender. Throughout the course, students develop skills in research design, data analysis, critical evaluation, and communication, alongside practical experience in investigative and applied settings. The program prepares graduates for careers in criminal justice, forensic psychology, law enforcement, probation, and related fields, while also providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study. By combining scientific knowledge with applied practice, students gain the analytical, investigative, and professional skills needed to understand and address complex behavioural issues in real-world contexts.
