COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Environmental Science degree offers a comprehensive exploration of environmental issues, combining biological and geographical perspectives to prepare students for careers in conservation, sustainability, and environmental management. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge through modules such as Biological Techniques, Ecology and the Diversity of Life, Environmental Change, Environment, People and Place, Communicating Science, and Sustainable and Equitable Futures. Year two builds on this foundation with core and optional modules including Conservation Ecology, Environmental Management, Behavioural Ecology, Microbiology Applications and Biotech, Geomorphology and Environmental Hazards, Climate Change, Energy and Society, Geospatial Skills for Professional Practice, and fieldwork in hazards, disasters, and sustainable development. Students also develop research skills and professional experience through a placement year. The final year focuses on advanced study and independent research, with modules such as Dissertation Planning and Publication, Geography Dissertation, Environmental Practice, Wildlife Conservation Field Course, Marine Biology and Conservation, Coastal and River Management, Extreme Climates and Environments, Plants and People, Animal Behaviour, and Managing Sustainability. Through lectures, fieldwork, and project-based learning, students develop analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills while applying scientific knowledge to real-world environmental challenges. Graduates leave the course equipped to pursue careers in environmental consultancy, conservation, policy development, sustainability management, or further academic research, with the ability to make meaningful contributions to global environmental solutions.
