COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology, Education and Special Educational Needs degree offers an integrated approach to understanding learning, development, and inclusion within educational settings. In the first year, students build a foundation in psychology, covering research methods, individual differences, and educational psychology, while exploring contemporary issues in special and inclusive education. The second year develops this knowledge further, with modules on cognitive, developmental, biological, and social psychology, alongside applied learning focused on supporting learners with additional needs, professional practice in schools, and understanding social inequalities, education, and youth participation. Students also gain practical experience through a professional placement year, allowing them to apply theory to real-world educational contexts. The final year emphasizes advanced study and practical application, including a dissertation and modules on contemporary psychological science, health, education and wellbeing, supporting learners with dyslexia, advanced educational psychology, and social and educational inclusion. Throughout the course, students develop strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills while learning to design and evaluate interventions that promote inclusive education. The program equips graduates to understand the psychological and social factors affecting learning, implement evidence-based strategies, and support diverse learners, preparing them for careers in educational psychology, special education, teaching, policy, or further postgraduate study in applied educational and psychological fields.
