COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Cyber Security course at Bath Spa University equips students with the skills and knowledge necessary to address modern cyber threats through a structured, multi-level curriculum. In the first year, students develop a solid foundation in cyber security principles, computing, coding, databases, digital forensics, and web development, gaining an understanding of how systems and networks operate and where vulnerabilities can arise. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced topics such as network administration, intrusion analysis and response, cyber resilience, software engineering, data visualisation, artificial intelligence, and physical computing, while also providing hands-on experience through CodeLab projects and professional placements. This combination of theory and practical learning ensures that students can apply technical knowledge to real-world scenarios. In the final year, students focus on specialised areas including cyber crime, law and ethics, securing the Internet of Things, cyber offence, cyber defence, and critical infrastructure protection, alongside a research project that consolidates their learning and encourages independent investigation. Throughout the degree, students develop problem-solving skills, ethical awareness, and a strategic mindset, preparing them for careers as cyber security analysts, consultants, or specialists across private, public, and critical infrastructure sectors, while also equipping them to adapt to the rapidly evolving cyber security landscape.
