COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biology course is structured over three years to provide a thorough grounding in biological science while offering opportunities for specialization and professional development. In the first year, modules such as Biological Techniques, Ecology and Diversity of Life, Anatomy and Physiology, The Microbial World, and Introduction to Biochemistry build foundational knowledge and practical laboratory skills. Communicating Science develops students’ ability to present complex scientific information effectively. In the second year, students expand their expertise through modules like Biological Systems, Conservation Ecology, Human Pathophysiology and Nutrition, Environmental Management, Behavioural Ecology, and Microbial Applications and Biotech, alongside options such as Clinical Psychology, Science Journalism, and The Marketing Business. Research Skills for Biology prepares students for independent investigation, and the Professional Placement Year offers real-world experience in scientific environments. In the final year, students undertake in-depth study and independent research through Dissertation Planning and Dissertation Publication, while optional modules such as Plants and People, Environmental Practice, Medical Biology, Marine Biology and Conservation, and Wildlife Conservation Field Course allow students to focus on specific interests. Additional modules such as Applied Sports Exercise and Nutrition, Food Safety, and Epidemiology and Public Health provide practical and applied understanding. Overall, the course combines theoretical knowledge, laboratory expertise, research skills, and professional experience, equipping graduates with the competence and confidence to pursue careers in research, healthcare, conservation, biotechnology, or further study in biology and related fields.
