COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Philosophy and Ethics degree provides a comprehensive exploration of philosophical and ethical thinking, guiding students to engage with both theoretical concepts and real-world applications. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational ideas through modules such as Truth and Reality, Ethics and Values, Worlds of Ideas, and Thinking Together – Humanities in the 21st Century, building critical thinking and analytical skills. The second year expands on these foundations, offering modules including Ethics in the Contemporary World, Asian Philosophies, Ecology and Nature, Applying Philosophy, and Political Philosophy, allowing students to examine diverse philosophical traditions and their relevance to contemporary social, environmental, and digital contexts. Collaborative learning and community engagement are emphasized through modules like Working Together and Transformative Communities, alongside opportunities for professional placement. In the final year, students consolidate their learning and pursue in-depth independent study through the Philosophy Project, while also exploring specialized topics such as Philosophy of Health, Life and Meaning, Making Sex, and Spiritual Revolution. Advanced modules in Asian Philosophies and Ecology and Nature further deepen understanding of non-Western thought and environmental ethics. This structure equips students with critical reasoning, ethical reflection, and research skills, preparing them for careers in education, public policy, social research, ethical consultancy, and further academic study, while fostering the ability to apply philosophical insights to contemporary challenges.
