COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Media Communications course offers a comprehensive understanding of media theory, production, and communication in a global context. In the first year, students are introduced to the fundamentals of media through modules such as Rethinking Media, Communications for Change, and Writing for the Media, which focus on developing analytical and creative communication skills. They also explore the influence of audiences, fan cultures, and ephemeral media in shaping modern digital landscapes. In the second year, the course deepens understanding of global communication strategies, media ethics, and the role of influencers and participatory media in contemporary culture. Students gain hands-on experience through practical modules like Digital Storytelling, International Journalism, and Everyday Media Making, enhancing their ability to create and critique media content. A professional placement year allows students to apply their learning in real industry environments. In the final year, students complete a Media Communications Final Project and engage with advanced topics such as Immersive Media, Feminist Activism, and AI and Society. They also study exhibitions, public audiences, and lifestyle journalism, equipping them with the creative, ethical, and analytical expertise needed for careers in media, communication, and digital industries.
