COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) International Relations and History course offers a comprehensive, interdisciplinary approach to understanding global politics and historical processes. In the first year, students are introduced to a wide range of ideas, approaches, and concepts that underpin the degree, developing essential skills such as problem-solving, collaboration, critical thinking, and the ability to interrogate evidence, data, and opinions. This foundation prepares students to engage effectively with complex historical and international issues. In the second year, the focus shifts to the mechanisms of foreign policy, intelligence, and diplomacy, exploring how formal and informal networks shape global interactions. Students can also tailor their studies through optional modules, allowing them to deepen their understanding of specific historical periods, themes, or genres. This year emphasizes applying knowledge to defined problems or case studies, bridging theory with practical analysis. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a substantial independent project, integrating theoretical understanding with practical application. Projects may take the form of extended academic writing, digital resource creation, policy briefs, community initiatives, or professional pitches, providing flexibility to align with career goals and personal interests.
