COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Interior Design course is structured to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional abilities over three years. In the first year, modules such as Introduction to Design Practices, Ideation and Communication, and Spatial Exploration provide a foundation in design thinking, concept development, and the spatial considerations of interior environments. Technical Practice I: Construction Detailing and Technical Practice II: Digital Integration equip students with essential skills in construction, detailing, and digital design tools, while Wicked Problems: The Complexity of Critical Design Thinking encourages innovative problem-solving and critical reflection. In the second year, students progress through Speculative Design and Inclusionary Design, exploring creative and socially responsible approaches to interior spaces. Modules like External Audiences, Industry Ready, and Critical Design Thinking and Contemporary Issues prepare students for professional practice, with the Professional Placement Year offering valuable industry experience. The final year emphasizes independent and advanced project work through External Audiences II, Design Futures: Independent Critical Project, Research, Resource, Resolve, and the Final Major Project, allowing students to consolidate their skills and produce a professional portfolio. Industry Ready II supports career preparation, ensuring students graduate with the practical, creative, and professional capabilities required for careers in interior design, spatial planning, and the wider design industries.
