COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Games Development course provides a structured and immersive learning pathway across three years, designed to equip students with technical, creative, and professional skills for the games industry. In the first year, students explore the fundamentals of game design through modules such as Rules of Play, CodeLab I, 2D Game Art, Sound for Games, Critical Play, and Game Jam. These modules emphasize hands-on learning, collaboration, and experimentation, helping students understand the principles of gameplay, basic coding, and audio-visual asset creation. In the second year, the focus shifts to more advanced design and production skills, including Indie Game Design, Narrative Design and Gameplay, 3D Game Art, CodeLab II, Extended Realities, Tangible Games, Playful Media, 3D Game Art II, and Immersive Audio. Students further develop their abilities in narrative development, 3D asset creation, and emerging technologies while gaining industry experience through a professional placement year. The third year immerses students in professional-level projects with modules such as Industry Ready, Games Studio Pre-Production, Serious Games, (Re)viewing Games, Games Studio, and Web Games. These modules simulate real-world studio workflows, allowing students to produce complete and original game titles, refine their portfolios, and gain industry insight. By the end of the course, graduates are prepared to enter the games industry with a broad set of practical, creative, and professional skills.
