COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fine Art course is structured to develop creative practice, critical thinking, and professional skills over three years. In the first year, modules such as Studio Practice: Strategies and Behaviours and Studio Practice: Investigation and Exploration introduce students to the fundamentals of fine art through experimentation in various media. Introduction to Fine Art: Fundamentals and How Did We Get Here?: Contexts of Art build technical and conceptual understanding while exploring the historical and theoretical foundations of art. In the second year, students refine their artistic voice through modules like Studio Practice: Frameworks and Enquiries and Studio Practice: Encounters and Audiences, focusing on audience engagement and contextual awareness. Exploring Fine Art: Territories and We Are Here: Art in the 21st Century encourage students to connect their practice to contemporary issues, while the Professional Placement Year offers valuable real-world experience. In the final year, students work independently on major creative projects through Studio Practice: In Context and Studio Practice: Exhibition, culminating in a public showcase of their work. The Situating Practice: Final Project module integrates research and reflection, supporting professional and artistic development. Overall, the course combines practical exploration, critical inquiry, and professional preparation for careers in the contemporary art world.
