The BA (Hons) Film and Screen Studies degree offers a comprehensive exploration of film and screen culture, combining theoretical, historical, and practical approaches to media. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as The Moving Image, Film Theory, European Cinema, and Digital Creativity and Content Creation, learning to analyze, interpret, and create media content. Year two builds on these skills with a focus on global and national film traditions, including American Cinema, Auteur Cinema, and Film Genre, while providing opportunities to engage in practical filmmaking projects, scripting, and understanding media ethics and screen industries. Students also explore contemporary issues in media, such as celebrity culture and specialist production roles, and may undertake a professional placement to gain real-world experience. The final year emphasizes independent research and applied practice, with modules including a Film and Screen Studies Dissertation, Major Project in Short Form Documentary Making, and specialized topics such as Decentred Approaches to Film and TV, Film Journalism, Feminist Activism, and Politics and Global Cinema.
