COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Photography course is structured to develop students’ technical, creative, and professional abilities through a combination of practical and theoretical learning. In the first year, modules such as Introduction to Fashion Photography, Fashion Identities, and Fashion Spaces introduce the foundations of visual storytelling, image-making, and fashion communication. Photographic Practice 3: Image and Context and History and Context: Introduction to Visual and Material Culture help students explore how imagery functions within cultural and historical frameworks, while Professional Contexts 1 begins their professional development. In the second year, modules like The Fashion Film, Fashion Stories, and Photographic Practice 6: Narrative – Fiction expand students’ understanding of narrative creation across still and moving images. Critical Design Thinking and Contemporary Issues and Professional Contexts 2 encourage deeper engagement with industry standards, ethics, and sustainability, while the Professional Placement Year offers valuable real-world experience. In the final year, students focus on producing a professional body of work through Professional Portfolio 1, Individual Practice: Portfolio 2, and Fashion Statement: Portfolio 3. Professional Contexts 3 and the Design Futures: Independent Critical Project support career preparation and independent research. Overall, the course blends creativity, critical thinking, and professionalism to prepare graduates for the global fashion and photography industries.
