COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Design course is structured to develop creative, technical, and professional skills across three years. In the first year, modules such as Research for Design Development, Presentation and Illustration, and Introduction to Fabrications build foundational knowledge in research, drawing, textiles, and design thinking. Students also explore garment structure and creativity through Introduction to Form, Construction and Cut, and Design through Cut, while Wicked Problems: The Complexity of Critical Design Thinking encourages innovative problem-solving. In the second year, the focus shifts to developing industry-relevant skills through modules like Introduction to Tailoring and Live Brief, Fashion Portfolio, and Period Fashion for Design Innovation, which help students combine historical research with modern design practice. Critical Design Thinking and Contemporary Issues deepens their understanding of the cultural and ethical contexts of fashion. The Professional Placement Year offers real-world experience and industry connections. In the final year, students refine their creative direction through major projects, including the Design Futures: Independent Critical Project and the Portfolio Projects and Final Project Capsule Collection, where they produce a cohesive body of work. Design Realisation and Fashion Portfolio and Self-Promotion prepare students for professional practice, helping them showcase their design identity and career readiness.
