COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Dance course at Bath Spa University offers a structured progression through practical, creative, and professional development across three years. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills with modules such as Body in Training 1 and 2, emphasizing healthy and mindful approaches to dance. Dance Making 1 and 2 introduce choreographic practice, while Exploring Screendance allows students to experiment with digital media and innovative performance forms. Performance Project 1 provides early opportunities to present work publicly and develop stage experience. In the second year, students advance their technical and creative skills through Body in Training 3, which emphasizes responsive and adaptive practice. Modules like Creative Worlds and Creative Lab foster experimentation, while Performing Self and Performance Project 2 enable students to explore performance identity and collaborative work. The final year consolidates professional and artistic growth, with The Company offering intensive collaborative performance experience and Somatics for Performance, Health and Wellbeing emphasizing sustainable practice. Dancing Knowledge and Professional Practice provide theoretical and career-focused learning, while the Independent Project allows students to produce a substantial, self-directed body of work.
