COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Architecture course is structured to develop creative, technical, and professional skills across three years. In the first year, modules such as Design Studio 1 to 3 introduce students to key concepts of people, form, space, and place, emphasizing observation, surveying, and visual communication through Communication 1 and Architectural Technologies 1. The module Wicked Problems: The Complexity of Critical Design Thinking encourages analytical and innovative approaches to complex design challenges. The second year deepens architectural understanding with modules like Design Studio 4 to 6, focusing on scale, collaboration, and intervention in design. Students explore contemporary architectural theories and professional practice through Architectural Technologies 2, Architectural Practice 1, and Architecture: Theory and Contemporary Issues. A professional placement year offers valuable real-world experience in design environments. In the final year, students focus on sustainability and independent creative development with modules such as Design Studio 7 - Climate Positive Design, Design Futures - Independent Critical Project, and Design Studio 8 - Final Project. Architectural Practice 2 supports professional readiness by refining project and industry-related skills. Overall, the course balances creative design exploration with technical knowledge and professional preparation, shaping students into thoughtful, responsible, and innovative architectural practitioners.
