COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Wildlife Conservation is a 180-credit program designed to provide advanced scientific, practical, and interdisciplinary training for careers in wildlife conservation and environmental management. In Semester 1, students build a strong foundation through modules in Data Management and Analysis, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Function, Interdisciplinary Aspects of Conservation, and Wildlife Ecology, Behaviour and Management, developing essential skills in ecological theory, quantitative analysis, and conservation planning. Semester 2 focuses on applied conservation practice, with modules covering Methods in Wildlife Conservation, Human–Wildlife Co-Existence, and Genetics and Conservation, which address field techniques, socio-ecological challenges, and the role of genetics in managing threatened species and populations. A major component of the program is the 60-credit MSc Dissertation completed in Semester 2, allowing students to undertake an independent research project on a wildlife conservation topic, applying analytical and research skills to real-world conservation issues. The program also includes a compulsory field-based element, where students choose one 15-credit field trip module. Options include an international Borneo Field Trip, offering exposure to tropical ecosystems and global conservation challenges, or a UK Wildlife Conservation Field Trip, focusing on conservation practice within the UK. Overall, the program integrates ecological science, data analysis, genetics, fieldwork, and human dimensions of conservation to prepare graduates for professional roles in wildlife conservation, research, and policy.
