COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Medical Molecular Biology with Genetics program provides advanced training in molecular biology, genetics, and biomedical research, preparing students for careers in research, diagnostics, and healthcare-related industries. The course begins with a strong emphasis on research development through a year-long Research Skills module, which builds competence in experimental design, data analysis, scientific writing, and critical evaluation of biomedical literature. In Semester 1, students gain practical laboratory experience through Laboratory Molecular Research, developing hands-on skills in modern molecular techniques, alongside Human Molecular Genetics, which explores genetic mechanisms underlying human development, variation, and inherited disease. Semester 2 focuses on applying molecular knowledge to health and disease, with Research Seminars exposing students to current advances and real-world research applications. Modules in Human Immunology and Disease and Molecular Diagnostics examine immune system function, molecular bases of disease, and diagnostic technologies used in clinical and research settings. The program culminates in a 60-credit Dissertation in Semester 3, where students undertake an independent research project, applying theoretical knowledge and laboratory or analytical skills to a focused topic in medical molecular biology or genetics. Overall, the course integrates theoretical understanding, laboratory expertise, and research practice to equip graduates with the skills required for advanced biomedical research, clinical laboratory roles, and further doctoral study.
