COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Investment Management at Bangor University is structured in two parts, combining taught modules with a research or applied project component to develop advanced skills in finance and investment. Part 1, the fully taught component, contributes 120 credits and is delivered over two semesters from late September to early May, including examinations in January, May, and June. It covers core subjects such as Current Issues in International Finance, which explores contemporary research and findings in global finance, International Financial Markets, providing foundational finance theory and practical applications, and Research Methods, which equips students with intermediate and advanced qualitative and quantitative research skills. Additional compulsory modules include Credit Risk Analytics, focusing on decision science and regulatory requirements in financial institutions, Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management, which develops expertise in portfolio analysis, modelling techniques, and risk management, and Financial Analysis, examining techniques to evaluate a company’s financial performance and market valuation. Part 2 is undertaken in the summer months from late May to September and consists of either a supervised dissertation of approximately 10,000 words or a structured Advanced Taught program of Summer Study specific to the degree pathway. Students may also select optional modules such as International Financial Management, Financial Econometrics, Corporate Risk Management, Mergers and Acquisitions, or Financial Ethics and Regulation to tailor their expertise to their career goals.
