COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Forestry program is structured to provide comprehensive academic, technical, and practical training in forest science and management, with flexible pathways for 1-year, 2-year, and 3-year degree options. All 1-year students complete a 60-credit MSc Dissertation in the first year, forming the core research component of the program. Block A introduces foundational perspectives through Forest History, Policy and Management and Urban Forestry, with Forest History, Policy and Management being compulsory for students on the 2-year and 3-year routes. Block B focuses on core silvicultural and production-based knowledge, including Silviculture, Timber and Wood-based Products, and Ecological Restoration, with the requirement that Silviculture must be taken before or alongside Ecological Restoration. Block C develops applied and analytical skills in Semester 2, offering modules such as Business Planning for the Green Economy, GIS for Forestry, Forest Protection, and Forest Inventory, Assessment and Monitoring, with GIS for Forestry acting as a prerequisite for advanced management planning. Block D emphasizes strategic and social dimensions of forestry through the Forestry Study Tour, Social Issues in Forest Management, and Forest Management Planning, the latter also requiring prior GIS knowledge. Overall, the program integrates policy, ecology, management, technology, and field-based learning to prepare graduates for professional practice, research, and leadership roles within the forestry and environmental sectors.
