COURSE CURRICULUM

The Conservation and Land Management MSc is structured in two parts, offering a comprehensive combination of taught academic study and independent research. Part 1, worth 120 credits, runs from September to May and includes four taught modules, a Research Methods component, and a Field Visit. These elements provide the necessary theoretical and practical foundation in conservation science, sustainable land management and environmental policy. Successful completion of Part 1 is required before progressing to Part 2. Part 2, worth 60 credits, takes place from the end of May to September and consists of a supervised dissertation project that enables students to specialise in an area of particular interest or professional relevance. The dissertation must demonstrate wide reading, critical analysis and, where appropriate, advanced research or technical methodology. It represents a significant component of the final degree classification. Topics are chosen in consultation with academic supervisors and must reflect meaningful engagement with conservation and land management issues. Bangor University regulations set a maximum dissertation length of 20,000 words, though a recommended length of around 8,300 words is typical within the School. Together, the two parts equip students with strong academic knowledge, practical research experience and specialist expertise for future careers in conservation, land management or further study.
