COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Computing for Data Science is a 180-credit postgraduate program designed to build strong computing foundations alongside applied data science skills. The course focuses on programming, data handling, and advanced computational techniques that support data-driven research and industry applications. A key foundation module is Introduction to Programming, which equips students with essential coding skills, problem-solving techniques, and an understanding of software development principles relevant to data analysis and scientific computing. Students then progress through selected optional modules, choosing 60 credits that allow them to tailor the program to their interests and career goals. Options such as User Experience and Human–Computer Interaction develop an understanding of user-centred design, usability, and how people interact with data-driven systems, while Natural Language Processing introduces methods for analysing and extracting meaning from text data using computational and machine learning approaches. The program culminates in the MSc Individual Project, a substantial 60-credit core component completed in semester three. This project allows students to apply theoretical knowledge and practical skills to an in-depth research or applied problem in computing for data science, often linked to real-world datasets or industry-relevant challenges. Overall, the program combines core programming expertise, flexible specialisation, and independent research, preparing graduates for roles in data science, software development, analytics, and research-focused computing careers across a range of sectors.
