This MSc program offers a comprehensive set of modules designed to build advanced knowledge and practical expertise in artificial intelligence and data science. The MSc Individual Project provides an opportunity to undertake a substantial research project aligned with the school’s research themes, allowing students to integrate the theory and skills developed during the taught component. Data Science equips students with the ability to frame and answer data-driven questions, developing intuition in selecting appropriate analytical techniques and algorithms. Introduction to Programming builds foundational and advanced programming skills in Python through practical laboratory work. Principles of Machine Learning explores the statistical and computational foundations of machine learning and its wide-ranging applications across industries. Advanced Research Methods supports the development of rigorous research skills, particularly in preparation for the major project. AI and Game Design examines real-time AI techniques within video game development, combining theory with practical game creation using modern engines. Natural Language Processing introduces computational linguistics concepts and practical text processing skills using Python and Unix tools, covering topics such as language modelling, n-grams, and information retrieval. Together, these modules provide a strong balance of theory, research, and applied technical experience.
