COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Marine Geoscience is a postgraduate program designed to provide advanced scientific and practical training in the study of marine environments and processes. In semester one, students complete core modules including Practical Oceanography, Geophysical Surveying, and Key Concepts and Techniques, which develop fundamental skills in ocean data collection, geophysical methods, and the analysis of marine systems. Semester two focuses on applied and analytical learning through modules such as Sediment Geotechnics and Literature Review and Project Planning, preparing students for independent research and professional practice. Students also select one optional 20-credit module in semester two, choosing from Sediment Dynamics, Marine Renewable Energy, Sedimentary Environments, or Climate and Climate Change, allowing specialization in areas such as seabed processes, sustainable energy, environmental change, or sedimentary systems. The program culminates in semester three with a 60-credit research project or dissertation, where students conduct an in-depth investigation into a marine geoscience topic using advanced techniques and independent analysis. The degree integrates theoretical knowledge, field-based skills, and research experience, equipping graduates for careers in marine science, offshore industries, environmental consultancy, research institutions, and further academic study in marine geoscience.
