COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Agroforestry and Food Security is a postgraduate program that combines environmental science, sustainable land management, and global food systems. Students begin by selecting one core module in semester one from either Agroforestry Systems and Practice, which focuses on the design and management of integrated tree–crop systems, or Global Food Security, which examines the social, economic, and environmental factors affecting food production and access worldwide. Alongside this, students choose from optional modules in semester one such as Foundations of Soil and Water, Ecological Restoration, Urban Forestry, or Agriculture and the Environment, allowing them to tailor their studies to interests in land, water, and ecosystem management. In semester two, students select further optional modules including Natural Resource Management, GIS for Forestry, and Business Planning for the Green Economy, which develop practical, analytical, and management skills. Students also choose one module from Block D, such as Forest Ecosystems, Social Issues in Forest Management, or an international or local study tour that provides hands-on field experience. The program culminates in a 60-credit MSc dissertation, where students undertake an independent research project on a topic related to agroforestry or food security. Overall, the degree prepares graduates for careers in sustainable agriculture, environmental management, policy, and research, with a strong emphasis on practical skills and real-world applications.
