COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Advanced Data Science is a postgraduate program requiring students to complete 180 credits over three semesters, combining core theoretical knowledge with applied data science skills. In semester one, students study Data Science and Information Visualisation, developing strong foundations in data analysis, statistical modelling, data handling, and effective visual communication of complex datasets. Semester two builds on this knowledge with Machine Learning, which focuses on algorithms, predictive modelling, and intelligent systems, alongside Advanced Research Methods, preparing students to design, evaluate, and conduct high-quality academic or applied research. A key component of the degree is the MSc Individual Project, a 60-credit core module completed in semester three, where students undertake an independent research or industry-focused project that demonstrates advanced analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills. In addition to the core modules, students can enhance their studies through optional modules such as High Performance Computing, which explores scalable and efficient computing for large datasets, and Natural Language Processing, which focuses on analysing and modelling textual data. The program is designed to equip graduates with advanced data science expertise, strong research capabilities, and practical skills relevant to careers in data analytics, artificial intelligence, research, and technology-driven industries.
