COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Advanced Computer Science is a postgraduate degree requiring students to complete 180 credits across three semesters. The program includes core modules that build advanced technical and research skills, beginning with Data Science in semester one, which focuses on data analysis, statistical methods, and computational techniques. In semester two, students take Advanced Research Methods, developing skills in research design, critical evaluation, and preparation for independent study. A major component of the course is the MSc Individual Project, a 60-credit core module undertaken in semester three, where students apply their knowledge to an in-depth research or applied computing project. Alongside the core modules, students select optional modules worth up to 80 credits, with a maximum of 40 credits from each of semesters one and two. Semester one options include Information Visualisation, Embedded Systems, and High Performance Computing, allowing students to explore data representation, hardware-software integration, or large-scale computational performance. Semester two options include Prototyping and Fabrication, XReality, and Machine Learning, offering opportunities to study emerging technologies, immersive systems, and intelligent algorithms. The program is designed to provide flexibility while developing advanced technical expertise, research capability, and practical skills, preparing graduates for careers in advanced computing, research, or further doctoral study.
