COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Accounting and Finance provides students with a comprehensive academic and professional education tailored for careers in accounting, finance, and related sectors. The program structure requires students to complete 180 credits, including compulsory, optional, and dissertation modules. During the academic year, students begin by undertaking 90 credits of core modules. These include International Financial Markets, Accounting Theory, and Management Accounting in Semester 1, which build foundational knowledge in financial systems, principles of accounting, and management decision-making. In Semester 2, students study Advanced Financial Reporting and Regulation, Research Methods, and Financial Analysis, further developing analytical and research capabilities critical for financial professionals.In the summer term, students choose one of three 60-credit dissertation modules: Accounting Dissertation, Finance Dissertation, or Financial Research and CFA. These modules allow for in-depth exploration of a topic relevant to the student’s interest and career goals while building research and critical thinking skills.Students must also select 30 credits of optional modules to tailor their learning experience. Options include Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management, Islamic Finance, Financial Ethics and Regulation, Islamic Accounting and Financial Reporting, and Multinational Corporate Finance. These modules offer specialisation in niche areas and broaden students' understanding of global finance practices and emerging trends.Overall, the course offers both theoretical depth and practical relevance, integrating core financial principles with real-world application. It equips students with the technical and strategic skills necessary for leadership roles in accounting and finance, supported by a curriculum aligned with professional qualifications such as the CFA and CIMA.
