COURSE CURRICULUM

The MMus Performance program is designed to develop advanced performance, research, and critical skills for musicians at postgraduate level, with study delivered across three semesters and available through the medium of either English or Welsh. In Semester 1, students complete 60 credits, beginning with Music and Ideas, which explores key musical concepts, contexts, and critical perspectives. Students also choose one Investigating Music module and one Performance I module, allowing them to focus on analytical enquiry and the development of high-level performance skills in their chosen language of study. Semester 2 also requires 60 credits and continues the balance between academic and practical training through Researching Music as a core module, a Music Education Project, and a choice of Performance II, further enhancing interpretative depth, technical proficiency, and research awareness. Across both semesters, students may study modules in English or Welsh, but cannot take the same module in both languages. The program culminates in Semester 3 with a 60-credit core research project or masters project, completed in either English or Welsh, which allows students to undertake an in-depth, practice-based or research-led investigation aligned with their performance specialism. Overall, the program integrates performance excellence, scholarly research, and critical reflection to prepare graduates for professional musical careers or further academic study.
